Chickenpox treatment
In most general cases of chickenpox, the treatment can be done at home easily. The main problem with chickenpox is that the rash is unbelievably itchy and discomforting. There are many treatments and methods to help ease the symptoms of chickenpox.
Most of the treatment methods are designed to help ease the itchiness of the blisters. Therefore a few simple treatment methods include applying cool compress to the blisters. Taking cool baths every couple of hours will also help lessen the discomfort.
Often times chickenpox is diagnosed to children. So many treatment plans are designed around children. If your child is suffering from chickenpox it is always a good idea to clip the fingernails and toenails. This will help prevent the child from breaking any blisters open. If the child continues to scratch, putting mittens or gloves over their hand will often help. Be sure to stay away from lotions that contain diphenhydramin. Lotions containing diphenhydramin can often be absorbed through the open skin lesions. And may effect the toxicity in the blood levels. All though it is not recommended for lotions, taking medications that contain it orally will often help with fever.
One thing to be sure and watch for is appetite. Many times children will develop sores in their mouth that make eating and drinking painful. If your child is suffering from this, be sure to help ease the pain with soft foods. Always encourage drinking however, this will help prevent dehydration, some fluids that are recommended, are milk, smoothies, and water. Try to avoid hot and spicy foods, this will only increase the discomfort. Drinking acidic fluids such as orange juice can also be discomforting.
It is also highly recommended to keep any children home that are suffering from chickenpox, until all the blisters have scabbed over. This will help prevent the spread of the virus throughout schools and daycare. If you have a doctors appointment be sure to inform the receptionist that the child has chickenpox, they may ask you to wait in a special waiting room.
Once an individual has the chickenpox they do not have to worry about getting them again. However in some cases individuals can go through life without ever getting the chickenpox, and others don’t become infected until they have children or they come into contact with it through a nephew or niece.
